A competency-based workshop that covers both theory and skills for IV therapy, including indications for therapy, fluids and medications, equipment, safety & infection control, troubleshooting, recognizing & managing complications, and insertion and discontinuation techniques. Skills practice progresses from artificial arms to live sticks. Materials provided. 

Learning Objectives: 

  1. Explain how NM law affects scope of practice & IV therapy????????????????????????? 

  1. Recognize the seriousness of medication errors.?? 

  1. List the?“rights” of safe medication?administration? 

  1. Identify the vascular system & relevant anatomy? 

  1. Explain the importance of aseptic technique & infection control? 

  1. Compare CVAD and IV devices, and describe IV system components & equipment.  

  1. List indications for IV therapy & solutions or medications that are given IV?? 

  1. Select appropriate sites for an IV.  

  1. Recognize local and systemic complications? 

  1. Explain common troubleshooting techniques? 

  1. Demonstrate correct procedures for inserting & discontinuing IV’s?
