EMS Instructor Coordinator (I/C) Theory Course

Prerequisities: Current EMT-Basic licensure or higher and instructor approval. 

This online course introduces the principles of instructional methodology for EMS instructors in accordance to DOT national guidelines, national education standards and the NM JOE committee. Upon completion of the course the participant will have the knowledge and ability to deliver instruction effectively from a prepared lesson plan to include instructional aids and evaluation instruments. The participant will be able to organize the learning environment to maximize learning, adhere to jurisdictional record keeping policies and adapt lesson plans for the unique requirements of the learner. 

Weekly course participation is expected of all registered participants. This includes dscussion boards with peers and the instructor and meeting deadlines for submission of assignments, quizzes, case studies, rodeo scenarios, presentations and exams. Successful completion is measured by achievement of at least 80% or higher as a final grade.

After successful completion of this online coursework, participants must do the following to receive an Instructor Coordinator course completion certificate: 
  • 1) Successfully complete an 80 hour internship with an instructor approved by the online course instructor and/or the Academic Affairs Director of the EMS Department at CNM. 
  • 2) Participate in an NREMT test site
  • 3) Complete a post online cousre requirements within 180 days after completion of this course.
