Series Introduction; Legal Issues of Guardianship and Conservatorship

The world of Guardianship and Conservatorship of adults is complex, with specialized concepts and practices that seriously impact the lives of many of our adult citizens. The Series Introduction will provide a brief history of this program; the fundamental ethical premises underlying guardianship and conservatorship; definitions of basic terms and concepts; and will preview what to expect from the whole series. This session will also study legal concepts and specific New Mexico laws key to the protective proceedings under which vulnerable people receive court appointed oversight. These laws provide the underpinnings for ethical practice standards for those who grapple with the many gray areas of life management with and for others.
