Community Dental Outreach, Experiential Learning

Experiential Learning, 120 hours over 12 weeks, scheduled at your preferred times and days of the week. 

The CHDC student will demonstrate practical application of the Community Dental Health Coordinator (CDHC) skills in your community. Approximately 40 hours of the 120 are application of administrative knowledge and skills required to organize, develop and manage integrated dental care in community-based clinics within practice standards. 80 hours are outreach activities scheduled by you. 
Outreach activities include providing educational events on smoking cessation, oral health and hygiene at public events like festivals and/or healthcare, senior care or school locations; performing flouride treatments, and/or and oral screenings.

Please read:  Participants are responsible for securing locations in which to perform their outreach activities in their communities. A licensed dentist is required to function as a referral source. The participants is required to provide their own transportation; coordinate with their course clinical instructor, obtain the necessary supplies;and wear scrubs and lab coats to the activities.
