This session covers conditions commonly encountered in behavioral health settings that may be associated with intermittent decisional capacity. Content will include conditions such as mental illness, traumatic brain injury (TBI), and substance abuse, conditions that are often more effectively addressed by less restrictive alternatives to plenary guardianship/conservatorship. This session will review some of those alternatives, as well as the role of the QHCP in G/C proceedings. Handout materials will be provided with opportunity to review some examples of behavioral intervention and communication strategies.
